Rapidly becoming a major golf centre in Europe, the Murcia region boasts a wonderful year round climate for golf, combined with a selection of fantastic championship courses for both the pro and enthusiastic golfer. One of the best is definitely Las Colinas golf and country club offers a track that blends naturally into the landscape, and it’s range of tees and wide fairways offer a challenge to all levels of golfer. Saurinas de la Torre is a desert style golf course, with an impressive lay out and lake. La Manga Resort is a must visit in the area. The resort itself has been named European Golf Resort of the Year on several occasions, and the three courses on offer, North, South and West, are all reason enough to visit before checking into the amazing hotel. Just over half an hour away, the Mar Menor course is a challenging round of golf with greens well protected by bunkers. The El Valle course is another desert style course set against the stunning backdrop of the mountains in the area, and offers a well maintained course with different types of grass on greens and fairways to help play. Nearby, the Alhama Signature course designed by jack Nicklaus is a wonderful experience signed by one of the world’s great players. Bunkers and lakes are perfectly placed to offer a challenging round. It is a short hop to Hacienda Riquelme, another Nicklaus creation and another great round of golf. Hacienda del Alamo is another perfect place for golf, with well kept greens, and challenging rough areas to keep tee shots accurate. La Torre offers a technical round of golf, where distances are not so much the challenge as taking on the risk/reward shots needed. Roda golf is another combination of a good hotel with an excellent track to match, and adapting the course to the landscape and the natural plants and trees of the area. A gem.
There are a selection of wonderful golf resorts in the area for the golfer who wants to live the experience, however the town of Murcia offers a chance to enjoy a traditional Spanish backdrop away from the fairway. Monastrell Bodega is a great place to go and try some local wine, and the Mar menor region offers relaxation as well as hotels such as the Caleia Mar Menor Golf and Spa. We recommend La Manga Resort for the golf and relax combination.
